A one day conference on Supportive Housing in Georgia to educate, develop, and support housing; to explore new strategies and discuss future changes in state policy and to facilitate collaboration between affordable housing and social service organizations.

Plenary Session Speakers:

Frank E. Shelp, M.D., M.P.H., Commissioner of Georgia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), as one of the architects of the US v Georgia settlement agreement Dr. Shelp brings a breadth of experience from the public, private, academic, and corporate sectors of healthcare. Previously, Dr. Shelp was the Vice President of Medical Affairs for First Health Services Corporation of Glen Allen, Virginia, a national quality improvement company serving state Medicaid agencies, managing pharmacy, behavioral health, and medical and surgical services with contracts in 28 states.

 Dr. Shelp holds a B.A. and B.S. from Eastern Mennonite College, Harrisonburg, Virginia; an M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia and an M.P.H. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Public Health. His post graduate training included a residency in psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center, and a fellowship in geriatrics at DUMC Center for the Study of Aging. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry and a Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association.

Nan Roman, President and CEO of the National Alliance to End Homelessness, is a leading national voice on the issue of homelessness. The Alliance is a public education, advocacy, and capacity-building organization with a network of over 5,000 nonprofit and public sector agencies and corporate partners around the country. She has researched and written on the issue, is frequently interviewed by the press, and regularly speaks at events around the country. Her unique perspective on homelessness and its solutions comes from over twenty years of local and national experience in the areas of poverty and community-based organizations. Under Nan’s leadership the National Alliance formulated the plan the end homelessness adopter by the George W. Bush administration and built bi-partisan coalitions in the U.S. Congress to advance the plan.
